have to say about life at Santec.
Dr. David Heard, Santec Europe Limited
Managing Director
I joined Santec in February 1998. I won't forget my first day, as
there had been a huge snowstorm the night before; when I arrived
at the office the car park was almost empty and most of the staff
had been delayed getting to work. I was immediately impressed by
the comradery and teamwork amongst everyone as they covered for
absent coworkers, and welcomed me to the company. I now know that
this is so typical of Santec.
I started initially by providing support for my
colleagues in our New Jersey office. I was immediately given responsibility
working with major customers, and felt great satisfaction as I could
feel my contribution to securing significant contracts was appreciated.
I am now responsible for the European market working
from Santec's office in the U.K. I appreciate the friendly atmosphere
of the Santec team and the dedication of everyone to support our
customers. Even though we are based all over the world, it is clear
that everyone is working together, to achieve mutual goals.
Santec has a good reputation and it is always a
pleasure to introduce the company to new customers. I also enjoy
working in a position that requires both business and technical
skills. I have the chance to see all aspects of the business, and
to contribute to Santec's future direction by proposing new products
and new business opportunities.
Makie Katou, Santec Corporation
Research Engineer
I joined Santec in February 1999. I started to work as an engineer
in the R&D Lab. I was immediately given the opportunity to lead
projects. As a result I felt that I made an impact on the success
of Santec and its products. In my first year I was recognized for
my hard work. I received an award for creativity and precision in
design. In my experience at Santec I have also had a chance to work
in the manufacturing and engineering departments.
Santec has given me the opportunity to further
my growth as an engineer. I have attended many international conferences
and trade shows. While having the opportunity to explore the world
I have strengthened my technical knowledge and abilities. As a result
my leadership role has increased. Currently, I am in R&D Lab
as a manager of a research section. I feel that this is very rare
and exciting opportunity for a female engineer.
Dr. Jonathan Evans, Santec USA Corporation
Senior Application Engineer
I joined the team at Santec in March 2001. Working for a leading
supplier of components, tunable lasers and test instruments for
optical telecom has its major benefits. Since arriving I have had
the pleasure of interacting with a wide range of extremely talented
individuals not only within Santec but also in the companies to
which we supply products. Another advantage has been the creative
and innovative atmosphere that the company encourages in its workforce.
As a result I have been able to meaningfully contribute to success
in my own department as well as to that in other divisions of the
business, expanding my technical knowledge as well as developing
new skills.
Gwyn Clarke, Santec USA Corporation
Sales Engineer, Fiber Optic Components
I have been at Santec since August 1999. I interface with customers
from many companies with diverse applications and requirements.
I am able to meet many interesting international brilliant people
and learn about exciting new technologies as they emerge. Our customers
call upon us to provide a solution and we are challenged to meet
their very specific requirements. Santec is rigid in its quality
standards for products and systems, yet flexible in its approach
to system solutions and customer service. Therefore, while using
Santec's expertise and foundation, each Sales Engineer is able to
work independently and creatively to provide the optimal result
for customer satisfaction.
Santec provides a unique environment for personal
growth. While I started out as a Sales Engineer in Laser and Test
Instruments, recently I have begun product management for components.
Training for each position involves visits to Headquarters in Japan
to see the production environment and Photonics Laboratory Corporation,
as well as continuous training on a regular basis with product managers
and product engineers. In addition to formal training, Santec encourages
personal skill classes, technical short courses and workshops. I
feel that I have grown personally and professionally while being
given the opportunity to make a difference at Santec.
Dr. Hashim Atcha, Santec Europe Limited
Technical Support Engineer
I started working for Santec in April 2000. I am responsible for
providing Sales and Technical Support to our customers throughout
Europe. My job involves meeting with customers at all levels within
their organization, presenting Santec and our product range to them
and to understand their requirements. In order to help the customer
meet their objectives, product information, samples and quotations
are provided on timely basis. I also work closely with my colleagues
in Japan to meet these goals.
The main objectives include getting to know the customers well and
to understand their project and product requirements. Satisfaction
is gained from working closely with the customers through out the
duration of their project and being able to meet their system requirements
using Santec's products. It is rewarding to be acknowledged for
the support provided. Santec is a young and dynamic company with
very friendly employees whom are all supportive of each other.
Michiko Minamikawa, Santec Corporation
Assistant Manager
I have been at Santec for four years in the Office Administration
Department. I have worked with Human Resources and General Affairs.
During my employment with Santec I have had a variety of job responsibilities
that include organizing events, insurance and benefits administration,
business trip records and recruiting for HR. This has given me the
opportunity to be diverse in my job and have every day be different.
I enjoy my job very much! I believe that trust
is very important. My supervisors trust me to do my job well and
I can count on my team for support. And I am very happy when I know
that this trust has built up between Santec and myself. I am satisfied
when an event is over, such as our 20th Anniversary in 1999 and
our new building opening ceremony last year, and it was 100% successful
with no mistakes. My co-workers are very friendly, warm and caring.
I am grateful to Santec for offering me many different opportunities
and the chance to work with great people.
